BENTON, Mo. -- Sister Barbara J. Lux, SSCM, 68, of Carterville, Illinois, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Presence St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee, Illinois.
She was born June 27, 1945, in Chicago, daughter of Cletus J. and Rita Halter Lux.
Barbara was a 1959 graduate of St. Jane de Chantal Grade School and a 1963 graduate of St. Joseph High School. She earned a bachelor of arts in psychology and theology in 1993 at St. Mary of the Woods College.
She made her profession of faith Aug. 18, 1985, and her perpetual vows Aug. 14, 1988. She spent her entire life helping other less fortunate people, to the point of founding the Awakenings program, which assisted individuals on probation and parole.
Survivors include her parents of Benton; two brothers, James and Richard Lux; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathryn and Jesse Rodriguez and Linda and Wayne Heifner, all of the Chicago area; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and a dear friend, Eleanor Ditrick.
The funeral was April 26.
Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais, Illinois, was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Ministry Fund of Servants of Holy Heart of Mary or to Hospice of Kankakee Valley, Illinois.
