ORAN, Mo. -- Sister Alvina Schott (Clara Elizabeth) ASC, 91, of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ, Ruma Center, Ruma, Ill., died peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at the community's center in Ruma.

She was born June 8, 1922, in Oran, to the late Charles and Ottillia LeGrand Schott.

Alvina made her first vows as an Adorer of the Blood of Christ on July 1, 1939, and final profession July 1, 1944.

She served as principal and teacher in elementary schools in Fort Dodge, Iowa, (1962 to 1967) and Murphysboro, Ill., (1967 to 1970). She taught in Mt. Carmel, Ill., (1954, 1955); Cahokia, Ill., (1955, 1956); Fort Dodge, (1956 to 1960); East St. Louis, Ill., (1960, 1961); St. Libory, Ill., (1970, 1971); Nashville, Ill., (1984, 1985); and Vienna, Mo., (1985, 1986). She assisted in the finance offices at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, Ill., (1942 to 1951); St. Clement Hospital in Red Bud, Ill., (1951); Catholic Children's Home in Alton, Ill., (1952 to 1954); Althoff High School (1990, 1991); and for the ASC's (1980 to 1982, 1992 to 2000). She ministered in religious education for Native Americans in Reserve, N.M., (1982, 1983); Lumberton, N.M., (1983, 1984); and Grants-Milan, N.M., (1991, 1992).

She volunteered to be one of the first missionaries in Liberia, West Africa, where she taught and managed schools in Grand Cess and Garnersville (1971 to 1980 and 1986 to 1990). She retired at the Ruma Center in 2000.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John, Joseph and Leon Schott; four sisters, Corena Seyer, Mary, Alma Carter and Sister Ann Catherine (Good Shepherd Sisters).

The wake service will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Ruma Center Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel. Monsignor Daniel J. Jurek will officiate, with reflections by Sister Maria Hughes ASC. Interment will be in Convent Cemetery in Ruma.

Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud is in charge of arrangements.
