Funeral for Shirley Jo Trainum of Cape Girardeau will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Kabo Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from noon until service time.
Trainum, 73, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
She was born May 3, 1928, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Clarence "Doots" and Floy Louisa Finley Hopper. She and Sam Trainum were married Nov. 27, 1997, in Cape Girardeau.
Trainum was a 1945 graduate of Central High School. She received a bachelor's degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University in 1951, and a master's degree in English from the University of Colorado.
She taught in Missouri at Malden, Jackson, St. Charles, Webster Groves and Kirkwood, and Central High School in Cape Girardeau. The last four years she taught in St. Louis inner city schools. She retired in 1992 and moved back to Cape Girardeau from Webster Groves. She also sang professionally in the St. Louis area.
Trainum was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Stephen Carosello of St. Louis; her father of Cape Girardeau; and a brother, Richard "Dick" Hopper of Derby, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
