Shirley L. Roth, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, July 29, 2010, at his home. He was born Oct. 24, 1930, in Frohna, Mo., to Theodore Joseph and Melissa Marie Aurich Roth. He and Shirley A. Meyer were married Nov. 23, 1957, in Cape Girardeau. Roth was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, Telephone Pioneers, Eagles Aerie 3775, and a life member of VFW Post 3838. Shirley L. Roth, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, July 29, 2010, at his home.

He was born Oct. 24, 1930, in Frohna, Mo., to Theodore Joseph and Melissa Marie Aurich Roth. He and Shirley A. Meyer were married Nov. 23, 1957, in Cape Girardeau.

Roth was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, Telephone Pioneers, Eagles Aerie 3775, and a life member of VFW Post 3838. He worked at Southwestern Bell 37 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley A. Roth of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Karen Scherer and husband Mike, Becky Roth, Judy Scherer and husband Randy, all of Benton, Mo.; four grandchildren, Amanda Loy and husband, Cliff of Kelso, Mo., Travis Scherer, Austin Lloyd Roth and McKenzie Ann Roth, all of Benton; three great-grandchildren, Caleb, Mason and Madison Loy, all of Kelso.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a baby brother and a half sister.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Loren Boettcher officiating. Burial will be in Hanover Church Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 3838 and Missouri Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be given to Southeast Hospice or Trinity Lutheran School Building Fund.
