Shirley Reed

Shirley Ann Reed, 82, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at her home.

She was born June 30, 1935, in Providence, Kentucky, to George R. and Roma M. (Winstead) Merritt.

She and John R. Reed were married Dec. 19, 1954, and he survives.

She was owner/operator of Reed Service Station in Cape Girardeau for over 40 years, alongside her husband, John. She was also a secretary for Cape GMC for 10 years, retiring in 2000. She was a member of First General Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, John R. Reed of Cape Girardeau; three sons, Richard A. (Cheryl) Reed and Robert C. (Regina) Reed, both of Cape Girardeau, and Ronald L. (Terri) Reed of Ballwin, Missouri; a sister, Ruby Merritt of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren, Rachel Reed, Roma Scroggins, Richard Reed II and Jude Reed; and nine great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Ramdial officiating. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
