Shirley A. Givens, 67, of Delta passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013, at the family farm in Delta.
She was born Aug. 3, 1945, in Cape Girardeau to William and Margaret Matilda Kinder Birkman Jr. She and Terry Givens were married July 31, 1970.
Shirley was an elementary teacher with the Delta School District, teaching various grades. She later received a master's degree specializing in remedial reading. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Delta and MSTA.
She and her husband, Terry, farmed as a team for more than 43 years. They traveled to county and local fairs, as well as three different state fairs to show draft horses and draft mules, selling more than 90 percent of their draft mules to the Amish in Pennsylvania.
Survivors include her father, William Birkman Jr. of Delta; husband, Terry, of the home; and two brothers, Kenneth Birkman of Advance, Mo., and Timothy (Jamie) Birkman of Delta.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, Mo.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Dan Baggett officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bertha Boyd. Burial will be in Barks Chapel Cemetery near Crump, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Delta Schools Foundation fund.
