Shirley M. Clifford of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024, at her home. She was born Dec. 6, 1939, to Ernest and Vera Ann Cox of Cairo, Illinois, with honorable mention to Lela Mae Applegate — affectionately known as “Nanney” — who helped raise her. Shirley M. Clifford of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024, at her home.

She was born Dec. 6, 1939, to Ernest and Vera Ann Cox of Cairo, Illinois, with honorable mention to Lela Mae Applegate — affectionately known as “Nanney” — who helped raise her. Her parents and Lela Mae Applegate preceded her in death.

Shirley is survived by her two sons, Robert (Vickie) Marler and Perry (Stephanie) Marler; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five sisters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at Hitt Cemetery in Success, Arkansas, with friends and family welcome to attend.
