MOUNDS, Ill. -- Shirley Marie Bell, 61, of Mounds died Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. MOUNDS, Ill. -- Shirley Marie Bell, 61, of Mounds died Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Shirley was born July 25, 1954, in Quincy, Illinois, daughter of Paul Harrett and Pauline Tournear Harrett. Shirley married George M. Bell on Jan. 3, 1976, in Carbondale, Illinois.

Shirley operated the Bell House Awards in Cairo, Illinois, and was a bookkeeper for Bell Monument Co. in Cairo and Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge, Illinois. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, formerly of Mound City, Illinois, member of the St. Mary's Sodality and member of the rosary/study group of the church. Shirley was an expert caretaker.

Immediate survivors include her husband, George M. Bell of Mounds; three sons, Matthew G. (Laura) Bell of Wolf Lake, Illinois, Lucas (Christine) Bell of San Antonio and Jeremy (Vicky) Bell of Mounds; a daughter, Trina (Alex) Bardoner of Villa Ridge; her mother, Pauline Harrett of Mounds; two brothers, Danny Harrett of Louisiana and Rick Harrett of Las Vegas; a sister, Vickie Villa of Mounds; and three grandchildren, Nikko Turenius-Bell, Anja Turenius-Bell and Cameron Bardoner.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Paul Harrett, and a grandson, Austin Bell.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge, with a prayer/rosary service at 7 p.m.

The funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Monsignor Bill McGhee officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Mounds.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to the Daystar Kitchen Table, 909 1/2 Washington Ave., Cairo, IL 62914 or to the Cairo Public Library, 1609 Washington Ave., Cairo, IL 62914 in memory of Shirley Bell.
