SHIRLEY BANKS

EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- Shirley Banks, 86, of East Prairie died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at his home.

He was born Feb. 7, 1914, in New Madrid County, son of Luther and Birdie Baker Banks. He married Rosalie M. Blyzes Sept. 12, 1936, in East Prairie. She died Sept. 22, 1999.

Banks was a retired construction worker. He was a member of St. James General Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Bob Banks of Catoosa, Okla., Melvin Banks of Crestwood, Arthur Banks of Lonedell; three daughters, Sharon Hatton of Sikeston, Judy Humphries of Pell City, Ala., Evelyn Mills of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Cecil and George Banks of East Prairie; three sisters, Mary Jane Pool, Irene Hubbard and Lucille Jernigan of East Prairie; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a son and three brothers.

Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Chapel in East Prairie. David Dowdy will officiate. Burial will be in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
