Funeral for Sherman E. Reed of Cape Girardeau will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Lynwood Baptist Church. The Rev. Mark Anderson will officiate. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum.

McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau is in charge of arrangements.

Reed, 78, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Dec. 7, 1919, at Eureka, son of Everett A. and Ethel H. Heisten Reed. He married Patricia McCarty, who died in 1957. He and Capitola "Cappy" McCulley were married Nov. 29, 1959, in Longview, Wash.

Reed worked at Peoples Utility Department in Longview for a number of years. He was then a steam plant engineer 18 years at International Paper Co., retiring in 1981.

He was a former member and deacon at Twentieth Avenue Baptist Church in Longview, and director of the SEAMEN Center there.

The Reeds moved to Cape Girardeau in 1991. He was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda Gould of Port Orchard, Wash.; a brother, Ralph Reed of Alton, Ill.; two sisters, Mildred Adam of Carlinville, Ill., Mary William of Potosi; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a grandson.
