Shelton Hempstead Sr., 68, 906 Ranney, died Monday, Dec. 11, 1995, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 14, 1927, in Toledo, Ohio, son of Milton and Ora Toney Hempstead. He and Mata Woods were married Oct. 29, 1954, in Reno, Nev.
Hempstead owned and operated New York Lunch.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Shelton Hempstead Jr. and Craig Hunt of Cape Girardeau; six daughters, Sherrie Hempstead, Emma Egson, Shaton Hunt, Evelyn Hunt and Patricia Hunt of Cape Girardeau, Joann Freeman of Fort Wayne, Ind.; three brothers, Louis, Charles and Alman Hempstead of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Emma Box of Ohio, Doris Hempstead of Cleveland; 24 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 6-8 p.m. Friday.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lorimier Cemetery.
