Shelton Hempstead Jr.

Shelton Hempstead Jr., 52, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at St. John's Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur, Mo.

He was born Nov. 27, 1956, in Los Angeles, to Shelton and Mata Wood Hempstead Sr.

Hempstead worked for Henry Warfield Construction 10 years, being disabled after that.

Survivors include two sons, Marcus Newsome of Springfield, Mo., Jamalle Hempstead of Cape Girardeau; seven daughters, Dewan Newsome, Erica, Nicole, Jessica, Rachel, Kayla and Mariah Hempstead, all of Cape Girardeau.

Also a brother, Craig Hunt of Springfield; five sisters, Emma and Sherry Hempstead, Patricia and Evelyn Hunt, all of Cape Girardeau, Joann Freeman of Indianapolis; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Lorimier Cemetery.
