Sharon Lynn Vied, 79, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023, at her home.
She was born May 24, 1944, in Detroit to Kermit and Juanita Phelps Rowland and grew up in Fredonia, Kentucky, with her three brothers and a multitude of cousins and other relatives. It was there that her Christian faith and great love of family, the outdoors and University of Kentucky basketball were cultivated. Sharon attended Fredonia High School, where she met her future husband, Don Vied. She graduated in 1962.
Sharon and Don had their first date squirrel hunting, where Don taught her how to shoot. They were married Sept. 3, 1964, in Fredonia and continued hunting and enjoying God's creations together for the next 55 years.
In 1965, Sharon completed courses at Betty's Beauty College in Madisonville, Kentucky, and earned her license in cosmetology. It was a profession she found engaging and rewarding and allowed her naturally curious, outgoing and friendly personality to shine.
Sharon also loved working in her gardens, especially tending to her numerous flowers, and it was widely known that she could coax nearly anything into growing and thriving. This included animals, too, and she took in more than her share of cats, dogs, rabbits, turkeys and squirrels.
She enjoyed traveling frequently, whether visiting her family in Kentucky or traveling as a guest of her best friend, Aleda, sightseeing across Europe. Some of her most treasured memories were made during her extended visits to family in Virginia. Above all, Sharon loved spending time with her two grandchildren, who she indulged frequently.
Sharon was often the life of any party with her wicked sense of humor, outgoing personality and general love of people. Her light in our world will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her husband, Don Vied; daughter, Donna (Craig) Greco of Hamilton, Virginia; three brothers, Anthony (Joanie) Rowland and Stevie (Glenna) Rowland, both of Fredonia, and Ron (Betty) Rowland of Princeton, Kentucky; and two grandchildren, Alexandria Greco and Grayson Greco.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at Ford and Sons Funeral Home, 708 W. Main St. in Jackson.
Burial will be at Rowland Cemetery in Fredonia.
Memorial contributions may be given to Crossroads Church, 4400 E. Jackson Blvd., Jackson, MO 63755, where Sharon was an active member.
Ford and Liley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
