Seldon Quick

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- Seldon F. Quick, 92, of Bloomfield died Sunday, March 28, 2010, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 17, 1918, in Bloomfield, son of Luther and Millie Scism Quick. He and Louisa Harris were married Dec. 25, 1943. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary Christmas Day 2009.

Mr. Quick had lived in Bloomfield all his life, and was a 1935 graduate of Bloomfield High School. He farmed and was employed at Elder Manufacturing Co. in Dexter, Mo., 37 years.

He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served in many leadership roles and was a deacon 60 years. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his produce with friends and neighbors. He was a positive person who enjoyed each day to the fullest. He was fortunate to have excellent health until a few weeks before his death.

Survivors include his wife, Louisa; two daughters and spouses, Judy and Tom Call of Baton Rouge, La., Jean and Don Norman of Jackson; two granddaughters and spouses, Christine and Mark Griffith of Biloxi, Miss., Joy and Joel Chew of Mandeville, La.; five great-grandchildren, Hailey and Haden Chew of Mandeville, Dylan, Brooke and Luke Griffith of Biloxi; a sister, Marjorie Proffer of Cape Girardeau; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Harris of Bloomfield. He was loved by his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Floda Glaser; and three brothers, Asa, George and Cloid Quick.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at First Baptist Church.

Friends and family are invited to a celebration of his life at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Kevin Eskew officiating. Interment will be in Bloomfield Cemetery.

Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
