Scott McDaniel Wright of Cape Girardeau departed this life Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, at the age of 38.

Born Nov. 12, 1979, he was the son of Kathryn Oldsen Wright and the late Steven Wayne Wright.

He was a graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School, and an active athlete with Special Olympics of Missouri. Scott participated in bowling, swimming, track and field, basketball and softball. In 2010, he and his teammates won the gold medal in softball at the Special Olympics national games in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 2014, he attended the Special Olympics national games for a second time, winning the silver medal in basketball, in Newark, New Jersey. He truly loved Special Olympics and the family/friends he gained through participation.

Scott worked at the Federal Building since its opening and was known by his coworkers as the go-to for the most up-to-date information on movies and sports. No matter where he went, he never met a stranger and was always ready with a hug and a smile for friends and family.

Scott is survived by his mother; brother, Corey Steven Wright of Denver; numerous aunts and uncles, Randy and Debbie Wright of Pacific, Missouri, Jim Wright of Oakville, Missouri, David and Judy Hutteger of Cape Girardeau, Bob and Janet Wright of Huntsville, Alabama, Ray and Barbie Oldsen of Dudley, Missouri, and Phil and Connie Oldsen of Kennett, Missouri; as well as numerous cousins and friends.

Throughout his life, he always had an optimistic outlook and even found a silver lining in the darkest cloud. He was the sunshine for his family and friends, and taught us all two things: Don't sweat the small stuff and no matter what is happening in your life, everything is always good.
