HAMBURG, Ark. -- Scarlett Jane Seabaugh, 58, of Hamburg passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.

She was born June 8, 1958, in Cape Girardeau to Richard Pender and Janie Evans. Scarlett was a beloved daughter, sister and niece.

Scarlett was a counselor and therapist most of her adult life. She worked in nursing and assisted living facilities to help put herself through college. She graduated with her master's degree in social work. Scarlett struggled with a major illness for 14 years, still managing to hold down a job between numerous surgeries and treatments. She always found the courage to continue on. She will forever remain an inspiration to her family, friends and co-workers.

Survivors include a son, Jason Schaper of Cape Girardeau; her mother, Janie Evans of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Andrew Thompson and Kirby Evans, both of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Crystal (Dolly) Urhahn of Chicago; a granddaughter, Paris; and lifelong friends, Charles (Vickie) Kent, Lindy Benes and Tammy and Lequarious Nimmer.

Scarlett's Arkansas friends who became family to her gave all and above through her illness and will never be forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Barbara J. McDowell; and her greyhound companion, Indy.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to Greyhound Rescue Therapy.
