Sarah Almeda Dillon, 95, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of McClure, Ill., passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Dec. 9, 1917, in Alto Pass, Ill., to Charles and Edith Groves Batson, who passed away in February of 1922. She was raised by her Aunt Winnie and John Vancil since she was four.

She and Chester "Jake" Dillon were married April 11, 1936, in Jonesboro, Ill. He passed away Oct. 27, 1966.

Sarah worked as a nurse's aide at Southeast Hospital for 23 years and was a member of McClure Baptist Church. She was a member of American Legion Post 900 Ladies Auxiliary and was chaplain of the group for two years.

Her survivors include two daughters, Roberta June (Lucky) Morgan of Grand Tower, Ill., and Carolyn (Tuffy) Ralls of McClure; a son, Chester L. "Pat" (Cheryle) Dillon of McClure; six grandchildren, Mike (Pam) Morgan, Cynthia (Gene) Ellet and Brad (Vanessa) Morgan of Grand Tower; Gina (Howard) Podolsky of Abu Dhabi, UAE, Bill (Wanda) Dillon of McClure and Angela (Brad) Dillow of Jackson; and 12 great-grandchildren, Amanda Morgan of Hammond, Ill.; Joyce Elaine, Trish, Christopher, Maggie Morgan and Jonnie Ellet of Grand Tower; Kyle Dillon of Baton Rouge, La., Leah Dillon of Albuquerque, N.M., Tyler Dillon of McClure, Max Podolsky of Abu Dhabi, UAE, and Kennedy and Brecker Dillow of Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Edith Groves Batson; parents who raised her, John and Winnie Vancil; husband, Chester Dillon; three brothers, Delbert, Ralph and Orville Batson; two sisters, Naomi Raby and Irene Clark; one great-grandson Joey Morgan; twin great-granddaughters Amber and Annie Ellet; and a nephew, Charles Clark.

Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. at the chapel, with the Rev. Randy Morgan officiating. Burial will be in at City Cemetery in Jonesboro.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
