CHARLESTON -- Sammy P. Smith, 64, of Fairmont City, Ill., formerly of Charleston, died Monday, Feb. 19, 1996, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Ill.
He was born Aug. 24, 1931, in Charleston, son of Frank O. and Willie Presson Smith. He and Nancy Walter were married May 25, 1955.
Smith had lived in Fairmont 15 years. He was a retired clerk with Roadway Express. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Charleston and Teamsters Local 688. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife of Cahokia, Ill.; three daughters, Karen Smith and Laura Hall of Cahokia, Susan Means of Freeburg, Ill.; two brothers, Eugene Smith of Belleville, A.J. Smith of West Covina, Calif.; three sisters, Velma Harvell of Charleston, Gladys Law of Memphis, Tenn., Maggie Jackson of Jackson, Tenn., and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, with the Rev. Gerald Collier officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 10 a.m. to service time.
