HAYWOOD CITY -- Sammie Louis Jones, 58, of Haywood City died Sunday, June 14, 1998, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, following an extended illness. He was born Jan. 24, 1940, in Shuqualak, Miss., son of Harry and Lurean Hardin Jones Sr. He and Sarah Lee Banks were married March 2, 1959...

HAYWOOD CITY -- Sammie Louis Jones, 58, of Haywood City died Sunday, June 14, 1998, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, following an extended illness.

He was born Jan. 24, 1940, in Shuqualak, Miss., son of Harry and Lurean Hardin Jones Sr. He and Sarah Lee Banks were married March 2, 1959.

Jones was a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Bell City.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Jerry Jones of Omaha, Neb., Derrick "Ty" Jones of Haywood City, Roderickus "Lamont" Jones of Ft. Stewart, Ga.; five daughters, Sandra Tyler of Kenosha, Wis., Theresa Johnson of Cape Girardeau, Charolyn "Cookie" Timmons and Tonya Chamberlain of Haywood City, and Lavette Harrington of Sikeston.

Also surviving are three brothers, Kenny Jones of Sikeston, Harry Jones Jr. of LaVergne, Tenn., Willie Jones of Cape Girardeau; seven sisters, Rosie Lewis of Sikeston, Louise Wiley and Estella Sharpe of Haywood City, Susie Haney, Mary Glover and Mattie Fort of St. Louis, Alberta Davis of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and five sisters.

Friends may call at New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Haywood City after 11 a.m. Saturday.

Funeral will be at noon Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Victor Williams officiating. Burial will be in Haywood City Cemetery.

Williams-Farr and Purnell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
