Buncombe, Ill. -- Sam Spurlock, 81, of Buncombe died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at his home.
He was born Nov. 17, 1916, in Union County, Ill., son of George and Delie Sadler Spurlock.
He married Nina Tellor on Feb. 28, 1939. They lived in Johnson County.
He worked as a farmer and construction worker. He retired as an employee of the Choate Mental Health Center.
He was an avid coon hunter and storyteller.
Survivors include his wife of Buncombe; four sons, Richard and Rodney Spurlock of Buncombe, Joe Spurlock of Dongola and Sammy Spurlock of Conroe, Texas; a daughter, Sally Stout of Buncombe; a brother, John Spurlock of Mount Pleasant; a sister, Lorene Morgan of Jonesboro; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, three brothers and a grandchild.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at Hileman and Parr Funeral Services in Jonesboro.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
The Rev. Floyd Stout will officiate. Burial will follow in the Casper Cemetery.
