OLMSTED, Ill. -- Ruth F. Wasson, 88, of Metropolis died Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Feb. 13, 1926, in Olmsted, to Otto Carl and Louise Dagner Schwieger. She married Gene Merle Wasson on Feb. 22, 1961. He preceded her in death July 20, 1997.
Ruth was a member of the Methodist church in Olmsted. She worked many years at Olmsted post office and retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; her parents; four brothers, Norman Gus, Raymond Otto, Cecil Hall and Loren Harry Schwieger; two sisters, Thelma Bagby and Louise Golightly; and a niece, Paula Schwieger.
Pallbearers will be Jim Bagby, Murray Schwieger, Bruce Schwieger, Michael Allcock, Darren Allcock, and Todd Childress.
Visitation will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis.
The funeral will follow at 10. The Rev. Louis W. Brinker from First Baptist Church in Metropolis will officiate. Interment will be in National Cemetery at Mound City, Illinois.
