Ruth Marilyn Sample, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Aug. 3, 1929, in Pocahontas, to Willie T. and Mary Morton Kasten. She and C.E. "Gene" Sample were married Oct. 17, 1948, in Pocahontas. He died Feb. 25, 2012.

Ruth was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and formerly sang in the choir. She was a devoted Christian. She was an amazing woman who was selfless in her love for family. She lived for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, and one of her specialties was Christmas cookies. She was truly an angel on Earth. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Fred) Vincel and Nancy (Marty) Niswonger of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Amber (Tim) Horrell, Crystal (Aaron) Williams and Andrea (Justin) Savat; six great-grandchildren, Owen, Luke and Carolina Horrell, Laikyn Williams, Hunter Welker, Roman Savat and expecting a great-grandson; and a brother, Eugene Kasten of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son-in-law, Boyd Morton.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Douglas C. Breite officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran School.
