JACKSON -- Ruth E. Proffer, 72, of Chesterfield, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 1994, at Delmar Gardens on the Green in Chesterfield.
She was born April 21, 1921, at Crump, daughter of Omar and Ora Crump Wampler. She and Marion Proffer were married Oct. 12, 1940, at Benton. He died Oct. 22, 1973.
Proffer was a member of Crump General Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, David Proffer of St. Peters; a daughter, Marcia Chilson of Chesterfield; three brothers, Jay Wampler of DuQuoin, Ill., Norvel Wampler of Burfordville, Wayne Wampler of Farmers Branch, Texas; six sisters, Edna Sitze of Cape Girardeau, Elladee Corbin of House Springs, Evelyn Vancil of DuQuoin, Janice McClard, Gloria Proffer and Janene Givens, all of Jackson; four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Michael Givens will officiate, with burial in Russell Heights Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. today.
