CAIRO, Ill. -- Russell Halliday, 95, of Hingham, Mass., died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Mass.
He was born Aug. 23, 1902, in Cairo, son of Harry E. and Nell Galigher Halliday.
Halliday was a graduate of Trinity Pawling School, was a member of its hockey and track teams, and later served as a trustee of the school. He was a 1926 graduate of Brown University.
He started a printing company, Topping House, in 1944 in Boston, Mass. It was later relocated to West Hanover, Mass., in 1955 and became Halliday Lithograph Corp. He retired in 1972 and then founded Halliday Books.
Halliday served on the vestry of the Church of St. John the Evangelist in Hingham, and had been active in Boy Scouting. He served in the Massachusetts State Guard during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma; a daughter, Jean Sughrue of Centerville, Mass.; a son, Jack Halliday of Palo Alto, Calif.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
There is no visitation.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Beechwood Cemetery at Mounds. Canon Arnold Hoffman will officiate.
A memorial service is planned Nov. 29 at Church of St. John the Evangelist in Hingham.
