Russell E. Hagler, 87, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Mounds and Tamms, Illinois, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at the Chaffee Nursing Home in Chaffee, Missouri.

Russell was born March 10, 1928, in Unity, Illinois, son of the late Russell E. Hagler and Izola (Martin) Hagler.

Russell was a member of the Sandy Creek Baptist Church, Tamms; a former member of the First Baptist Church in Mounds, where he served as a deacon and a former Sunday school teacher; and a Navy veteran.

Russell retired as an operator from the Martin Marieletta Plant in Kevil, Kentucky, where he worked for 38 years.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Louise (Taylor) Hagler of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Dianne (Richard) Miller of Villa Ridge, Missouri; a son, Phil (Kim) Hagler of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren, Jennifer Miller, Rebecca Miller, Paul (Stephanie) Hagler and Laura Hagler; three step-grandchildren, Ethan, Alex and Sophie; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home Villa Ridge.

Funeral services for Russell E. Hagler will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Clint Nale officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to the Sandy Creek Baptist Church or to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852-3914, in memory of Mr. Hagler.
