Rufus William Lindsay, 82, of Route 1, Cape Girardeau, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 1992, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Sept. 21, 1909, in Cape Girardeau, son of John W. Lindsay and Cora Jane Hobbs Lindsay.

He married Cora Marie Slinkard on April 7, 1928 in Jackson. She survives.

He was a farmer and worked at the former Simpson Oil Company, now Atlantic Richfield Oil Company, until he retired in 1970. He then worked as a self-employed painter.

He was a member of Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Church and St. Mark's Masonic Lodge.

Other survivors are two sons, William Lindsay of Matthews and Kenneth Lindsay of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Joyce Clifton of Jackson and Judith Kay Smith of Carthage, Ill.; 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Friends may call at Ford & Sons Sprigg Street Chapel today from 4 to 8 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 6 p.m. Funeral service will be Tuesday at the chapel. The time of service will be announced later. Burial will be in Hobbs Chapel Cemetery.
