Funeral service for Rufus James Sample, 215 Country Club, will be held at 11 a.m. today at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel. Chaplain Arthur Kelley will officiate, with burial in Lorimier Cemetery.

Friends may call at the chapel from 10 a.m. to service time.

Sample, 93, died Thursday, June 20, 1996, at Ratliff Care Center.

He was born July 31, 1902, in Bollinger County, son of James and Bessie Cotner Sample. He and Lucille A. Stotler were married Aug. 9, 1934, at Steelville. She died July 25, 1992.

Sample was a self-employed carpenter and had also worked at Landgraf Lumber Co., retiring in 1973.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry and James Sample of Cape Girardeau, and two sisters, Lela Collins and Nola Eldridge of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
