PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Rudolph "Rudy" Amschler, 88, of Perryville died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, at Perry County Nursing Home.
He was born Dec. 8, 1917, at Apple Creek, Mo., son of George and Sophia Unterreiner Amschler. He and Wilberta C. Schnurbusch were married Feb. 12, 1946. She died March 22, 2006.
Amschler attended Apple Creek School. He owned and operated Amschler Decorating and paint store in Perryville more than 25 years. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, American Legion Post 133, VFW Post 4282 and Disabled American Veterans.
He served in the 3rd Army under General Patton during World War II. He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Marksman, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.
Survivors include four sons, Stanley, Dennis and Gary Amschler, all of Perryville, Kevin Amschler of Lebanon, Mo.; two daughters, Shirley Carr of St. Petersburg, Fla., Sharon Danz of Perryville; a brother, Theo Amschler of Oran, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, a sister and a granddaughter.
Visitation will be at Miller Family Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday from 6:30 to 10:50 a.m. The parish wake will be at 6 tonight, and VFW service at 6:30. The rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. Kevin Fausz officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery at Apple Creek, with military honors by American Legion Post 133.
