Roy L. Meystedt Jr., 70, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, July 17, 2017, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 21, 1946, in Cape Girardeau to Roy L. and Virginia Schlueter Meystedt.
He served in the Army in Vietnam.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3838 for over 20 years and the Knights of Columbus Council 1111 for 20 years.
He taught at St. Vincent Elementary School prior to teaching in the Cape Girardeau Public Schools for five years, and he was a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 16 in Cape Girardeau for over 20 years. He taught at Shawnee High School in Illinois for over 19 years.
Survivors include two brothers, Ronnie (Gail) Meystedt of Carrollton, Texas, and Michael Meystedt of Mount Sterling, Illinois, and five nieces, Megan Davis of Carrollton, Mallory Meystedt of California, Kristina Meystedt of Dallas, Michelle Meystedt and Ellen Meystedt.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, with parish prayers at 7 p.m., followed by Knights of Columbus rosary.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Rick Jones officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, with military rites by the Missouri Honor Guard.
Memorials may be given to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
