COBDEN, Ill. -- Roy C. Basler, 87, of Cobden died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at his home. He was born April 4, 1911, at Cobden, son of Fred and Mary Sweitzer Basler. COBDEN, Ill. -- Roy C. Basler, 87, of Cobden died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at his home.

He was born April 4, 1911, at Cobden, son of Fred and Mary Sweitzer Basler. He and Frieda Lindsey were married June 14, 1932, at Cobden. She died Jan. 6, 1974.

Basler was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cobden and the Knights of Columbus. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include a daughter, Anita Howell of Coulterville; two sons, Roy "Sonny" Basler of Cobden and Donald Basler of Coulterville; three sisters, Frances Meredith of Iowa, Helen Hamilton of Anna and Alma Medlin of Carterville; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A sister and three brothers preceded him in death.

Visitation will be after 5:30 p.m. today at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home, with a rosary at 7.

Funeral Mass will be said at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's church, with the Rev. Federico Higuera officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
