Roy D. Brown, 79, of Jackson died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at Cahokia Nursing and Rehab Center in Cahokia, Ill.

He was born Feb. 21, 1929, in Jackson to the late George Ray and Emma Rosebud Shaner Brown. Roy was a 1947 graduate of Jackson High School and received a bachelor of arts degree in English from Southeast Missouri State University.

Roy was married 20 years to the late Marjorie Morton Frost.

He was the father of three sons, Daniel R. (Roberta) Brown of Jackson, David A. (Kimberly) Brown of O'Fallon, Ill., Jonathan R. (Teresa) Brown of Fort Worth, Texas; grandfather to Chelsea, Elise and Hunter Brown; brother to Kenneth (Peggy) Brown of Jackson, Betty Lee (John) Moyle of Manchester, N.J., and Mary Crites of Jackson.

Roy was preceded in death by a sister, Sybil Loos of Jackson.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He was employed as a technical writer for Convair Aerospace in San Diego and McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis. Additionally, he was employed by Oak Ridge School District in Oak Ridge as a high school teacher and bus driver. He was a Mason and a member of the Elks BP0 391 of Cape Girardeau.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson.

A memorial service honoring Roy's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. A light luncheon will follow in the church's fellowship hall.
