CHARLESTON -- Rosie Lee Whitney Fennell, 71, of Charleston died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

She was born May 23, 1926, at Clarksdale, Miss., daughter of Walter and Susie Mix Whitney.

She married Huriah Fennell on Aug. 12, 1944, at Tunica, Miss.

She had lived in Missouri for more than 53 years.

She was a member of the Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Deventer where she served on the Mother Board and Usher Board, and the Queen Esther Chapter No. 7, Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband; six sons, Joe Fennell of Fort Myers, Fla., and Huriah Fennell Jr. and Johnnie, Henry, Willie Bee and Glenn Fennell, all of Charleston; two daughters, Ruth Harris of Charleston and Willie Mae Hunter of Benton Harbor, Mich.; five brothers, Tim Whitney Sr. of Charleston, James, Preston and Henry Whitney of Fort Myers, and Walter Whitney of Wilson City; three sisters, Ruby Johnson, and Pearl and Erma Whitney of Charleston; 22 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Matthew Baptist Church in Charleston.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at the church. The Rev. William Watson, pastor of Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church, will officiate, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery at Charleston.

Sparks Funeral Home in Charleston is in charge of the arrangements.
