Rosemary A. Smith, 85, of Jackson passed away Friday, Dec. 11, 2020, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born April 14, 1935, in Cape Girardeau to Leo H. and Ida T. Heuring Schabbing. She and Leslie D. "Doc" Smith were married June 11, 1955, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, also the church of her lifelong membership. Rosemary A. Smith, 85, of Jackson passed away Friday, Dec. 11, 2020, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born April 14, 1935, in Cape Girardeau to Leo H. and Ida T. Heuring Schabbing. She and Leslie D. "Doc" Smith were married June 11, 1955, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, also the church of her lifelong membership. Five children were born to their union.

At the age of 14, she became employed at Saint Francis Hospital, where she was called "Roses." After marriage, she devoted herself to homemaking, raising her family and looking after the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rosemary's greatest treasure in life was her family, and she explicitly requested they all be named in her obituary: husband of 65 years, Doc Smith of Jackson; children, Steven (Debbie) Smith of Sedgewickville, Missouri, Geralyn (Rod) Rhymer of Scott City and Michael (Susie) Smith, Patricia (Dennis) Schuette and Sheila (Randy) Rhymer of Jackson; grandchildren, Jamie (Bryan) Kiefer, Bradley (Jennifer) Smith, Blake (Shea) Popp, Christina Smith (Justin Oliver), Tonya (Dylan) Snell, Desirae (Johnny) Cook, Ashley Smith Seabaugh, Danielle Schuette (Matt Seiler), Michael Smith (Alyssa Alger), Brooke (Alex) Simmons, Kyle Rhymer (Jen Ulaszek), Katie (Trey) Wallace and Lee Smith (Sarah Melchert); and great-grandchildren, Evan and Owen Kiefer, Cody Johnston, Dakota and Brenley Smith, Colton, Cayden and Callie Friese, Case Snell, Harley Smith, Koby, Aubrey and Lawsyn Cook, MaKayla Rangel, Hunter and Holden Seabaugh, Beckett and Elliot Simmons, Layn Wallace, London, Sydney and Kaleb Popp, Maci and Tate Zoellner; and a great-great-grandson, Lincoln Johnston.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Leo J. Schabbing.

A private funeral Mass was held at St. Mary's Cathedral.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Colton's Crew at any Regions Bank location or St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau.

Rosemary's care was entrusted to McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
