CAIRO, Ill. -- Rosemary Burnett, 85, of Murphysboro, Ill., died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at Jackson County Rehab and Care Center in Murphysboro. She was formerly of Cairo. She was born Dec. 7, 1918, in Bardwell, Ky., daughter of Robert and Thelma Lee Halteman. She married William Tanner Burnett, who died in 2000...

CAIRO, Ill. -- Rosemary Burnett, 85, of Murphysboro, Ill., died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at Jackson County Rehab and Care Center in Murphysboro. She was formerly of Cairo.

She was born Dec. 7, 1918, in Bardwell, Ky., daughter of Robert and Thelma Lee Halteman. She married William Tanner Burnett, who died in 2000.

Burnett was a member of First Christian Church in Cairo, where she had served as song leader, Sunday school teacher, trustee and chairman of the board.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Nobel of Murphysboro; two sons, Kenneth and Richard Burnett of Murphysboro; two sisters, Dorothy Reasons and Patsy Simmons of Cairo; two brothers, Joe Halteman of Wickliffe, Ky., Keith Halteman of Carbondale, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister.

Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo from 5 to 8 p.m. today, and Sunday at First Christian Church from 10:30 a.m. until service time.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the church, with the Rev. Richard Pigg officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro.
