NEW HAMBURG, Mo. -- Rose Lee Kern, 76, of New Hamburg passed away Monday, March 19, 2018, at Chaffee Nursing Center.
She was born Jan. 9, 1942, in St. Louis to the late Ruddle Otto and Mary Stevens Gloth. She and Robert "Duke" Kern married June 29, 1963, and he preceded her in death Aug. 3, 2016.
Rose Lee was a retired piece matcher for Thorngate Ltd. in Chaffee, Missouri, and Cape Girardeau. After retirement, she worked for the Walmart deli in Cape Girardeau.
She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg and the St. Ann Sodality. She was a former president and current member of the New Hamburg Homemaker's Club and a former leader of the Eager Beavers 4-H Club and an adoring Elvis fan.
Rose Lee worshiped her beautiful granddaughters and took pride in all their accomplishments. She always told everyone she was a tough mom, but she had a heart of gold for her son, Doug, and her daughter-in-law, Sue.
She is survived by a son, Robert Doug (Susan) Kern of Oran, Missouri; two granddaughters, Jessica Kern of Cape Girardeau and Jamie (fiance Trenton Hency) Kern of Oran; a sister, Karen Schmitt of Chaffee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Pamela Cate, and a brother, Michael Gloth.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg. Parish prayers will at 6:30 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Casteel as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Lawrence Cemetery in New Hamburg.
