Rose V. Jarvis, 97, a loving wife, mother, volunteer and past longtime resident of Huntleigh Woods in St. Louis County, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Jan. 24, 1916, in Norwich, Conn., to Thomas and Mary Brown.
Rose graduated from nursing school in Connecticut as a registered nurse and very much enjoyed her nursing work before retiring to raise two daughters.
In the 1950s, she helped raise funds for many polio drives and in the 1960s utilized her nursing skills by volunteering at American Red Cross blood donation centers.
She very much enjoyed entertaining and traveled extensively with her husband, Harold T. Jarvis, vice president of Murch-Jarvis Construction Co. He preceded her in death in 2002. They were avid golfers and founding members of Westborough Country Club in Webster Groves, Mo., and were winter golf club members in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Additionally they were long-term members of Ladue Chapel in Ladue, Mo.
Rose is survived by two daughters, Carol Miller of Cape Girardeau and Ethel Huff of Canadensis, Pa.; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.
The family is very grateful for their mother's dedication, values and generosity and will miss her strength, independence and lively spirit.
The funeral and memorial service will be private and handled by Bopp Chapel in St. Louis.
