Rosalia M. Scherer, 89, of Cape Girardeau passed away Monday, July 8, 2013, at Chateau Girardeau, which had been her home the last six years.

She was born Sept. 3, 1923, in Charleston, Mo., daughter of Henry B. and Catherine Bruenderman Duenne. She and Jerome J. Scherer were married Jan. 22, 1944, in Charleston. He passed away Nov. 30, 2007.

Rosalia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend. She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Cathedral, Council of Catholic Women and American Legion Auxiliary Post 63 in Cape Girardeau.

Loving survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Sharon Scherer and David and Sue Scherer of Cape Girardeau, and Dale and Eliza Scherer of St. Louis; four daughters and sons-in-law, Delores and Terry Deck of Vicksburg, Miss., Dorothy and Dennis Clark of Louisville, Ky., Darlene and Joe Bullinger of Jackson and Dianne and Tom Redman of Allen, Texas; two sisters, Catherine Showmaker of Cape Girardeau and Monica Dirnberger of Oran, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Donna Rose Scherer; three brothers; and four sisters.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, with parish prayers and rosary at 4 p.m.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Tom Kiefer officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Mary's Cathedral or American Legion Auxiliary Post 63.
