CARBONDALE, Ill. � Ronnie Slinkard, 64, of Carbondale, formerly of Jackson, passed away Friday, July 27, 2018, at the Carbondale Memorial Hospital. CARBONDALE, Ill. � Ronnie Slinkard, 64, of Carbondale, formerly of Jackson, passed away Friday, July 27, 2018, at the Carbondale Memorial Hospital.

He was born Dec. 1, 1953, in Cape Girardeau, son of Ronnie Gene and Della Stovall Slinkard.

Ronnie worked on the river from 1974 to 1979 before becoming an OTR trucker; he worked for several companies throughout his career.

He was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed traveling, especially taking cruises and river-boat gambling. He had a contagious laughter and accepted everyone as his own and would do anything for anyone.

Loving survivors include his mother, Della, and stepfather, James McLain, of Jackson; a son, Ronnie Slinkard (Sarah Tanner) of Scott City; a brother, Hank Baker of Jackson; two stepsons, James Jones (Evelyn Freeland) of Whitewater and Rocky Jerls of Puxico, Missouri; and a stepdaughter, Jennifer Jerls of Puxico. He is also survived by his very special friend his miniature pinscher, Little Trouble.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronnie Gene Slinkard.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. J.D. Smith officiating. Interment will be in Russel Heights Cemetery.
