Ronald H. "Ronnie" Kern, 73, of Scott City passed away peacefully Monday, March 17, 2014, surrounded by the people he loved. He was born Dec. 20, 1940, at home in Ancell, Mo., to Harold and Viola Arnold Kern. He married Rosemary Uhrhan Aug. 4, 1962, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton, Mo. They enjoyed 51 1/2 years together...

Ronald H. "Ronnie" Kern, 73, of Scott City passed away peacefully Monday, March 17, 2014, surrounded by the people he loved.

He was born Dec. 20, 1940, at home in Ancell, Mo., to Harold and Viola Arnold Kern. He married Rosemary Uhrhan Aug. 4, 1962, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton, Mo. They enjoyed 51 1/2 years together.

Ronnie worked at the Scott City post office 33 years, retiring in 1998. He was active in Knights of Columbus, Meals on Wheels, Scott City Restitution Board, and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; their two children, Sherry (Donnie) Thomas and Gary (Courtney) Kern; and four grandchildren, Zane and Victor Thomas and Gracie and Lillie Kern. He is also survived by some tremendous friends whose friendship he cherished.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at St. Joseph Church. Parish prayers will be at 6, followed by Knights of Columbus service.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Oliver Clavin as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
