Rondal Myrle Schmidt, 81, of McPherson, Kan., died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in McPherson.
He was born May 25, 1924, in Turpin, Okla., son of Daniel M. and Elizabeth Wiens Schmidt. He and Johnnie Louise Peck were married Aug. 2, 1945, in McPherson.
Schmidt had worked for E.K. Carey Drilling Co. and National Drilling Co., and managed a gasoline station. He moved to McPherson in 1946 where he worked at Nicholson-Burt Filling Station, was an assistant shop foreman 10 years, and then was a shipping and receiving clerk at Continental Aluminum, retiring in 1976. He was a member of First Christian Church, life member of American Legion Post 24 and Elks Lodge 502, all in McPherson.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Connie Ghere of Claremore, Okla.; a son, Michael Schmidt of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Darlene English of Tujunga, Calif.; a brother, Harvey Schmidt of McPherson; two grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and nine great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home in McPherson from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, with the Rev. John Gran Sr. officiating. Inurnment will be in McPherson Cemetery at a later date.
