Ronald Leslie Jaynes, 71, formerly of Cape Girardeau, Parma and Sikeston, Missouri, peacefully passed away Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, surrounded by family and friends at Jackson Manor in Jackson. Born April 21, 1946, in Hayti, Missouri, son of the late Leslie Holland and Helen Beatrice Jaynes, he was a former sports editor for The Daily Standard in Sikeston in the 1970s and owned and operated many small newspapers in Southeast Missouri up until his retirement...

Ronald Leslie Jaynes, 71, formerly of Cape Girardeau, Parma and Sikeston, Missouri, peacefully passed away Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, surrounded by family and friends at Jackson Manor in Jackson.

Born April 21, 1946, in Hayti, Missouri, son of the late Leslie Holland and Helen Beatrice Jaynes, he was a former sports editor for The Daily Standard in Sikeston in the 1970s and owned and operated many small newspapers in Southeast Missouri up until his retirement.

Many may know Ron as "Coach," as he coached Little League sports for decades. Some may have been his teammate and played ball with him. An avid sports fan, he certainly loved the St. Louis Cardinals.

On March 21, 1975, he married Betty Newton, and they spent 42 years of marriage together as one. They traveled doing photography before settling down in Southeast Missouri.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Roger (Debbie) Jaynes of Sikeston; three daughters and their spouses, Ronda (Mike) Marshall of Asheville, North Carolina, Ramona (Mike) Cox of St. Louis, and Brooke Jaynes and Justin Wissmann of Cape Girardeau; two sons and their spouses, Mark (Teea) Jaynes of Sikeston and Grant (Jina) Jaynes of Chaffee, Missouri; 30 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Betty Lee Jaynes; his parents; a brother, Chester Holland "C.H." Jaynes; a sister and brother-in-law, Roxann and Larry McRoy; and two sons, Timothy Eual Heacox Jaynes and Matthew Leslie Jaynes.

A memorial service will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at First Church of The Nazarene in Cape Girardeau.
