Funeral mass for Romanus John Halter, 19 S. Benton, will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary's Cathedral. Msgr. Richard Rolwing will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park, with graveside rites by VFW Post 3838.
Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Halter, 79, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 1996, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born June 19, 1917, at Oran, son of Henry and Ida Nagel Halter. He and Alma Messmer were married Sept. 28, 1946, in Cape Girardeau.
Halter moved to Cape Girardeau in 1945. He worked at Leming Lumber Co. a short time, and then was employed by the Cape Girardeau Fire Department 27 years, retiring in 1975.
He served in the U.S. Army's 63rd Infantry from 1941-45. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, and life member of VFW Post 3838.
Survivors include his wife, and a brother, Andrew Halter of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
