Roger Horst

Roger Warren Horst, 81, of Jackson died Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 9, 1926, in Madison, Kan., son of Dwight L. and Nellie Imthurn Horst. He and Fran L. Rust were married July 16, 1950, in Goodland, Kan.

Horst was a graduate of Madison High School and received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Kansas State University.

He worked 34 years with Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America, retiring in 1986 as station superintendent.

Horst moved to Jackson in 1959 from Pampa, Texas. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and its Men's Club, chairman of the congregation, past elder and chairman of Stewardship Committee, served on the Lutheran Home Building Committee and had been a church trustee. He was a member and past president of Jackson Rotary Club and member of Southeast Missouri Medical Board.

He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the Philippines.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Steven (Carol) Horst, Dennis (Theresa) Horst, Barry (Sherry) Horst, Don Horst, all of Jackson, Mark Horst of Farmington, Mo.; a daughter, Janet (Don) Campbell of Arnold, Mo.; a brother, Adam Horst of Yates Center, Kan.; seven grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Horst, Laura (Jason) Jones, Ryan Campbell, Cara Campbell, Matthew Horst, Kaley Horst and Lucas Horst; and a great-granddaughter, Ava Jones.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home, and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating. Burial will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, Mo., with military honors.
