Robin H. Jones, 85, of Oak Ridge passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2019, at his home.

He was born Oct. 20, 1933, in Mangum, Oklahoma, to Noah F. and Willie Robinson Jones. He and Augustine Henley were married Aug. 17, 1955, in Abilene, Texas.

Robin was a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, serving honorably from 1955 to 1957. He was based in Japan during the Korean War. He reached the summit of Mount Fuji, receiving all station stamps on his "Fuji Stick."

Robin utilized the GI Bill many years and earned a master's degree in music education. He taught music, math and social studies at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Oakland, California, retiring in 1988. After 28 years of teaching, he was voted "Best Teacher" by the students.

Robin loved family, music, hunting, fishing, training dogs and good food, but he especially enjoyed teaching his great-grandchildren how to play chess. Because he was passionate about everything he did, he never did things halfway. His music had to be darn near perfect; his dogs were very obedient; and he was so accomplished at chess, some called him a "master," even though he never played in tournaments. For the last few years, he ate lunch at Broussard's almost every day. The "Jones Special" consisted of oysters, crawfish etouffee and bread pudding.

Robin was a member of Jackson Church of Christ, serving as their song leader for many years and assisting with Thursday school until his health declined.
