ULLIN, Ill. -- Roberta C. Windland, 78, of Champaign, formerly of Mounds and Mound City, died Friday at Covenant Hospital in Champaign.
She was born June 26, 1917, in Mound City, daughter of Charles A. and Mary Overstreet Griffith.
In 1938, she married Harry E. Windland and lived in Mounds until 1957, when they moved to Champaign.
In Mounds she was a news correspondent for the Cairo Evening News. In Champaign she was a secretary for 24 years with the Champaign school system until her retirement in 1981.
She was a member of the Martha Circle at First United Methodist Church in Champaign and served several years as secretary of the former Cole Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors are her husband; two sons: Harry K. Windland of Glen Carbon and Larry M. Windland of St. Charles, Ill.; a sister, Dorothy Cowles of Dearborn, Mich.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Throgmorton.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Mounds.
Service will be at the church at 4 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Dennis Doane officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens.
