Robert L. Ward, 78, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Feb. 11, 1923, in Rector, Ark., son of Robert Lee and Martha Jackson Ward. He and Irma J. Greene were married July 16, 1949, in Piggott, Ark.
Ward was a 1941 graduate of a Rector High School. He taught school three years, was a sales representative with Duncan Hines 12 years, and owned and operated Fairway Market in Cape Girardeau 32 years.
He was a member of Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Church. He was president of Cape Grocery Association 15 years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Keith Ward of Cape Girardeau, Steven Ward of Burleson, Texas; a sister, Almarita Pruett of Cleveland, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Revs. Jerry Sander and Jim Hogue will officiate. Burial will be in Hobbs Chapel Cemetery.
