ALTENBURG -- Robert W. Harbison, 76, died Friday, May 21, 1999 at Perry Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Perryville. ALTENBURG -- Robert W. Harbison, 76, died Friday, May 21, 1999 at Perry Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Perryville.

Born May 24, 1922, in St. Louis, he was the son of Willard M. and Edith Hornberg Harbison.

He and Verna M. Haertling were married Oct. 2, 1948, in St. Louis. She survives at their home in Altenburg.

Mr. Harbison was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells, Mo., for 11 years and was a current member of American Legion Post 133 in Perryville.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

He was previously employed at Letterhead and Check Inc. in St. Louis as a plant superintendent for 10 years and later retired from Essex Cryogenics, also in St. Louis after 10 years as a machinist. He was a former member of the Maplewood Rotary Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Karen Schaffner of St. Louis; a granddaughter, Marissa Schaffner of St. Louis; two brothers, James Harbison of Globe, Ariz., and Larry Harbison of Thatcher, Ariz.; two sisters, Betty Reed of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Norma Dee of Phoenix, Ariz.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 tonight at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Immanual Lutheran Church in New Wells, with the Rev. Walter F. Patzwitz officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
