Robert Vogelsang

Robert E. Vogelsang, 80, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 29, 1933, in Cape Girardeau to Clarence Henry and Ella Adeline Harper Vogelsang.

Robert served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves for eight years and was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. He worked for Burroughs Corporation, Procter & Gamble and McDonnell Douglas.

He and Mary Ann Trombetta were married Saturday, Sept. 8, 1979, at Cape Girardeau.

Robert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and SEMO Boosters and was an accomplished golfer and booster. He was an avid sports enthusiast, particularly the St. Louis Cardinals and Southeast Redhawks. He loved big bands and jazz music. He was a model railroader.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Vogelsang of Cape Girardeau; a son, Robert C. (Barbara) Vogelsang of St. Peters, Mo.; a granddaughter, Tiffany (Dan) O'Connell of Decatur, Ill.; a grandson, Kevin C. Vogelsang of Orlando, Fla.; and cousins John Harper and family of Sikeston, Mo.; M.E. Rhea and family of Cleveland; Marjorie Jenkins and family of Studio City, Calif.; Rotie Smith and family of Houston; and Edward Matthews and family of Sikeston.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Nathan Burgell officiating.

Burial will follow in Lorimier Cemetery.
