Robert Ray Stroder, 92, of Cape Girardeau died peacefully at home Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Sept. 8, 1930, in Cape Girardeau to Truman W. and Leona Marie Diebold Stroder. He and Helen Marie Rellergert were married Aug. 18, 1951, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Apple Creek, Missouri.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 as a tank commander in Korea, and in the Army Reserve as a master sergeant.

Bob was a 1948 graduate of St. Mary's High School.

He was formerly a member of St. Mary's Cathedral parish from his youth, where he served as an usher for many years. He became an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where he was involved with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and was among the group of parishioners who started Vincent Vittles and Marillac Moveables, in which he helped for 10 years. He was a St. Francis Adorer for 15 years.

He was also a member of VFW Post No. 3838.

Bob and Helen, his wife of 71 years on Aug. 18, loved to dance. In his earlier years, he was able to enjoy his love of music by playing clarinet in the Cape Nite Owls.

He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman. He also refinished untold pieces of furniture for family, friends and those in need.

He worked for Cape Electric Supply from 1955 to 1995.

Survivors include his wife, Helen of Cape Girardeau; daughter, Sharon L. (Tom) Hinkebein of Sun City, Florida; son, Mark G. (Julie) Stroder of Wildwood, Missouri; twin daughters, Diana M. (Tom) Harold and Denise E. (Alan) Essner of Cape Girardeau; brother, Quentin (Carolyn) Stroder, and sister, Marilyn Rellergert, both of Jackson; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Geraldine Meier.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., with parish prayers at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Additional visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the church.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the church, with the Rev. Rick Jones officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. Graveside military rites will be provided by Missouri Honors Team.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Vincent de Paul Church to be used in the Christian Service Ministry or Birthright.
