SCOTT CITY -- Robert Lee Phipps, 70, of Scott City died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born March 28, 1930, at Bloomfield, son of James Edward and Irene Hockersmith Phipps. He and Mary Lue Carter were married June 18, 1954, at Illmo.
Phipps was a yardmaster with Cotton Belt Railroad at Valley Junction in East St. Louis, Ill. He moved to Scott City 12 years ago from Cahokia, Ill. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Scott City, SEMO Amateur Radio Club and Tri County Amateur Radio Club at Morley, and life member of VFW Post 6407.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Jim Phipps of Atlanta, Ga., Don Phipps of Lebanon, Ill., Brian Phipps of the home; a daughter, Joyce Mazzarella of Tamaroa, Ill.; his mother of Scott City; three sisters, Margaret Bauregard of Simmesport, La., Mary Voorhes and Barbara Lichtenegger of Jackson; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, a son and a daughter.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Randy Morse officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
